What If in "My" Childhood, "My Teacher"...

Option 2: Online Collaborative Workshop

Observation and Pedagogical Documentation with an Inclusive Lens

We are the teacher today, influencing the child's mind, body and spirit. Let's take action today!
This workshop supports early childhood educators in strengthening their observation and documentation skills through inclusive, culturally respectful, and reflective practices. Participants will explore multiple observation tools, including written, visual, audio, and oral storytelling, that capture the diverse ways children learn and express themselves. Drawing on Universal Design for Learning (UDL) principles, the workshop emphasizes documenting learning in ways that are accessible, meaningful, and adaptable to all children, including those with diverse abilities. Indigenous perspectives on documentation, as a relational process that honours family and community, are integrated into activities and discussions. Participants will have opportunities to practice observations, create learning stories, and reflect on the impact of documentation on curriculum planning. By the end, they will have strategies to ensure their observations are equitable, bias-aware, and culturally responsive, while strengthening connections with families. This workshop is ideal for educators in group, preschool, or family child care settings.
